Autism Transitions - Conor Loved His First Year of Middle School

Transitions can be difficult for children with autism. We were anxious at the start but we were prepared with a good plan and good help from everyone at the school and district. Very special thanks to Teacher Assistant Brad Daniels who was outstanding.

Conor himself though was most responsible for his great year. Above is Conor with his Perfect Attendance certificate for which he also received the trophy above, right. Conor received ABA instruction, including Discrete Trial Training, as well as activity and time in general areas like the gym, pool, kitchen and library.

For those who think that ABA is somehow "oppressive" and "robs an autistic child of his personality" Conor's perfect attendance, and the enthusiasm he showed each day being the first in our household, every single day without fail, to head for the family car to get to school, say otherwise.

Congratulations Conor! Perfect attendance is an outstanding achievement for an individual with ASD.

I would say many peppers are in order for Conor. Enjoy your summer and stay safe.

I would say all colours of peppers are in order for your hard work.

Enjoy your summer and stay safe.

Another reason why ABA/IBI should be in schools across Canada.

LOL Yes, Christine Conor will get lots of colored peppers. We will have lots of fun this summer too.

There are many myths about autism and ABA. One of them is the myth that ABA robs the personality of an autistic child.

Good man Conor. My own little man is fairly enthusiastic about his ABA school too, often getting up at 6am just to be sure he doesn't miss a minute.

Way to go Conor!!! I would say a trip to Superstore is in store for you...peppers.

Our son is heading into High School and he will continue to receive ABA throughout his day. He loves going to school, and had perfect attendance for 2 years.

ABA in school conducted by formally trained and certified TA's and Resource Teachers is definitely beneficial.

Congratulations to Connor for perfect attendance. You are fortunate to have a child healthy enough to go to school every day. : )We don't have ABA available where I'm from (rural Michigan), so you are fortunate in that aspect as well.

I am sorry to hear you don't have an ABA option in rural Michigan. We have had to fight hard to get it here in New Brunswick.
