Putting your child in with a dolphin can be very dangerous, and while fun and your kid may enjoy it, it’s hooey as an autism treatment.

With that said, we do the horse therapy and my 7 year old with PDD-NOS loves it. I see it as a good thing for her, but I am still not sure I would call it “therapy”. If I start taking kids for a ride on my 4 Wheeler, could I charge and call it “Offroad therapy”, apparently. :-)

***WARNING: HARSH LANGUAGE, DON’T WATCH IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED****, but funny as heck …

PENN & TELLER on Dolphins … part 2 mentioned the autism treatments, etc.

part I - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dj_2rD24mQw&feature=related

part II - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7-HcHQoioM&feature=related

part III - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoHqB_FQkpA&feature=related

Fielding J. Such evidence is the lowest quality evidence available;

Organizations providing info for the public, including parents of newly diagnosed autistic children should not mislead them by implying that no one approach is better. The evidence says otherwise.

The AAP (2007)said evidence of the effectiveness of RDI effectiveness for autism treatment is lacking:

"Some reviewers have praised the
face validity of this model, which targets the core impairment
in social reciprocity. However, the evidence of
efficacy of RDI is anecdotal; published empirical scientific
research is lacking at this time."Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05838571980003579163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33052404.post-71465708287301647692008-07-14T13:02:00.000-03:002008-07-14T13:02:00.000-03:00OK - there is evidence that ABA works, but we as p...OK - there is evidence that ABA works, but we as parents have to keep open minds and new approaches that don't even exist today may work better. But when they are new, there is obviouslt not going to be scientific evidence to rely on. My son did not respond well to ABA, yet when we took and "RDI- like approach" and worked in some others, we see reults. The real answer is there is no one answer. But soley relying on evedence-based therapies, will limit you to ABA and nothing else. it would be a shame to miss out on a viable alternative because of a closed mind.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33052404.post-28772741580526381352008-07-11T16:09:00.000-03:002008-07-11T16:09:00.000-03:00Hi Harold,Fully agree, now there is genetic eviden...Hi Harold,

Fully agree, now there is genetic evidence that ABA is effective.
